Storing Report Instances

To store a report instance filled with actual data …​

1 Open the report in the Report Viewer by right-clicking the Report Item object in the I/O Model and selecting Add item(s) to …​  Dashboard from the context menu.

2 Now the report instance can either be saved as file, using the Windows 'Save' dialog, or it can be stored inside the system by attaching it to the Report Item itself.

To save a the new report instance as a file …​

1 Right-click inside the Dashboard showing the report and select the suitable file format.

  • If the report includes signature fields for Report Signing, select 'Document File …​'' to save the report in the Stimulsoft Document (*.mdc) file format.

  • If the report includes signature fields for PDF Digital Signatures, select the Adobe PDF File format.

2 In the Windows 'Save' dialog navigate to the proper location and provide a suitable name for the exported report. By default the report name as configured in the Report > Report Design Data > [x] <report name> > Report name property of the Report Item object is used.

To attach the new report instance to the Report Item …​

1 Right-click inside the Dashboard showing the report and select Attach and then a suitable file format.

  • Reports employing Report Signing can only be signed inside the system or in the Stimulsoft designer. Attaching them to the Report Item object is generally a good practice.

  • Reports for PDF Digital Signatures can only be signed in external PDF viewers and are therefore best saved as external files, not 'attached' to system objects.

2 If an attachment with the same name already exists, you are asked to provide a new name or to confirm that the existing attachment is to be replaced with the new instance.

By default the report name as configured in the Report > Report Design Data > [x] <report name> > Report name property of the Report Item object is used.

The number of reports which can be attached to Report Items is limited according to the settings in General Settings …​ > Report Export of the Options menu.
